Incredible as it may seem, water is the quite possibly the most overlooked catalyst in losing weight and improving your health.  Many of us take it for granted, but water could be the “fountain of youth” for permanent weight loss  and healthier looking skin.  Over 80% of our body is water!

Water has many important functions in the body.  As a natural suppressant water can actually help decrease fat from depositing in the body.

Why?  The kidney’s filtrate many impurities in our body.  When our kidneys sense a low volume of water in our body they do not function properly.  If our kidney’ s are not functioning properly then our liver must kick in to help take the load off of them.  The liver’s primary function is to metabolize stored fat into usable energy.  If the liver has to work extra hard then it does not function at its normal work capacity.  As a result, it metabolizes less fat.  More fat remains stored and weight/fat loss stops!

The best way to bust weight plateaus is to give your body more water.  Just like in my prior post ” Are you Spongebob Square Pants” I give some tips to help you alleviate water bloating and help you drop unwanted water weight.

If you have problems with water retention then maybe you have an excess of sodium in your diet.  The more salt you consume the more water your body will hold onto.  Our body will hold onto water to help dilute the excess sodium from our diet.  I think adding more water is the key to decreasing your “muffin top” and the lower back fat.

How much water should I drink per day?  The common answer is 8 glasses per day.  I usually recommend taking your body weight and divide it by 2.  This number is the total ounces per day for you.

How much sodium should we have in our diets per day?  I recommend not to exceed 3500mg per day.  Be careful because everything has sodium.  Read the labels carefully on sodium per serving.  Lunch meat and frozen foods are jammed full of it.  Here is a tip when you are buying frozen meat..do not buy the frozen chicken breastsThey are injected with a sodium solution and typically have around 530mg of sodium per chicken breast!

If you are constantly feeling tired or fatigued you should increase your water intake!  Over 78% of America’s population is walking around chronically dehydrated!   

What if you do not like water?  That is a common answer that I hear.  You might try these extra additives.  Sugar free Tang, lemon, Crystal Light, or even flavored water.  These are a great way to help encourage more water consumption.
